Connecting (Full Film)

The 18 minute “Connecting” documentary, created by Bassett & Partners for Windows Phone Design Studio, is an exploration of the future of Interaction Design and User Experience from some of the industry’s thought leaders.

As the role of software is catapulting forward, Interaction Design is seen to be not only increasing in importance dramatically, but also expected to play a leading role in shaping the coming “Internet of things.” Ultimately, when the digital and physical worlds become one, humans along with technology are potentially on the path to becoming a “super organism” capable of influencing and enabling a broad spectrum of new behaviors in the world.

Why External Links Should Open in New Tabs

One of my absolute pet-hates in Web Design, (IE6 is #1). Of course external links should open in a separate tab. Visitors to any website should not need to use their browser back button to get back to the original page they were on.

Redefining Web Designers, Web Developers, and Web Hybrids for the modern market

Well written blog post on how different roles are perceived in the world of website/app creation. Can we be both a Web Designer and a Web Developer? Can we be a Web Designer and a Usability Engineer? Is a Webmaster an expert in all possible fields?

I often ask myself these questions, especially when reading job descriptions relating to Web Design/Development, where it is not uncommon to see requirements such as: Expert in PHP/MySQL and JavaScript, expert in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, at least 3 years experience in Search Engine Optimisation… With a job title of Web Designer.

Kill the Password: Why a String of Characters Cant Protect Us Anymore

A must read article for anyone worried about online security and how easy it actually is for a persons online identity to be stolen and compromised.

To some this article may seem rather alarmist, but to be fair to the author, he was hacked, lost personal emails, photos etc. We need to be more aware of just how fragile our online security is, that by simply knowing a few details about another person, we could if we wanted to, hack into their online life!
